Description
Join us this summer at Parkland College as we explore our local agricultural resources and how they affect food production in our area. This course, The Wealth of Our Community, has been designed to educate consumers about agriculture with such topics as the local foods initiative, the quickly advancing technology practices used in modern production, and the vast natural resources found out your back door.
Participants will learn from professionals over the course of four evenings of discussion culminating with a local farm tour featuring lunch at Prairie Fruits Farms! Speakers will include, Dan Schafer of Illinois Council on Best Management Practices, Jenni Fridgin of Parkland College, Jim Fraley of Illinois Farm Bureau, and a panel of local foods experts.
The Wealth of Our Community will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 12-21 from 7-8:30pm and Friday, July 22 from 9am – 4pm.
A $49 registration fee includes a special lunch during the Friday field trip to Prairie Fruits Farm and Creamery. Teachers that enroll and complete the full course can receive 10.75 professional development clock hours (PDCH).
