An open house will be held at Kevin Elliott Counseling in order to provide information to parents about the ''Social Thinking Group'' for children who need assistance developing more effective social skills, including children with Autism. A child may be eligible for this program if he or she has difficulties with developing peer relationships, understanding social expectations, adapting to new people or situations, and recognizing and responding appropriately to social cues. The ''Social Thinking Group,'' facilitated by April Keaton, LCSW, will help children to develop their social skills and improve their interactions with other people. The program is based on Michelle Garcia Winner's Social Thinking curriculum, which helps children to recognize how their behavior affects other people. Two groups will be offered, one for children ages 8-12, and a second group for children ages 14-18. The lessons will include the following social skills: Flexible thinking, perspective-taking, interpreting non-verbal cues, and recognizing expected and unexpected behavior. ~~~ Please call for more info or to RSVP or reserve a space in the group. 217-398-9066. Insurance and sliding scale accepted.
