Description
There will be an open house four our new DBT program on 1/26/2012 at 6pm. At the open house, you can meet Kathleen El Koury, LCSW and Mollie Holman, LCSW, the therapists who will be facilitating the program. You will also be able to learn more about the DBT program. The ultimate goal of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is to help the participants to ''create a life worth living'' by focusing on changing the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that contribute to life's challenges. The DBT program consists of a DBT Skills Training Group and regular individual therapy sessions. In between individual sessions and skills training classes, Mollie and Kathleen are available for support to provide ''real life'' coaching of the skills in your day to day life. We are available by telephone, email, or you may post you concern in our private forum. The DBT Skills Training Group will occur weekly for one and a half hours for 16 weeks. One month will be spent learning each of the four skills. Individual therapy sessions may be scheduled at any time. However, if you already have an individual therapist, you are able to continue seeing him or her for sessions. The group will begin on February 2, 2012 at 6pm. During skills training classes, the following skills are taught so that you may gain control of life most difficult challenges: -Mindfulness focuses on staying the present moment and paying attention to your emotions and senses, without judgment. Being mindful allows you to experience feelings and gain perspective. -Emotion Regulation teaches you to be able to tolerate intense emotions and feelings, without becoming ''out-of-control.'' -Distress Tolerance emphasizes accepting, finding meaning for, and tolerating difficult situations. -Interpersonal Effectiveness centers on learning skills to build healthy relationships, particularly assertiveness, saying ''no,'' and coping with conflict.
